I regularly have clients share their struggles with covering dark under eye circles. Two of the main concerns are finding the right shade and covering under the eyes without it caking or looking too heavy.

Why do we have dark circles?

Dark circles are caused by many different internal and external factors such as lack of sleep, dehydration, hereditary or dietary reasons just to name a few! It really can be different for everyone.

My makeup solution to reducing dark circles so that it looks natural is using the M.A.C Prep + Prime Highlighting Pens. They work wonders on clients and for personal use.

A common myth is that your foundation or concealer will be enough to cover dark circles.
This is not always the case.

Conceal AND Colour Correct

The real secret to properly covering dark circles is to apply a colour corrector AND a concealer. You may have found when you apply concealer alone it looks too light or ashy.
Covering under the eyes with concealer alone will add coverage to under eyes and to an extent help cover, however the colour corrector will reduce any ashiness or darkness under the eye.

Which shade is best for my skin?

Colour correctors come in a variety of shades like soft yellow, light peach, dark peach/orange, or light pink which help to reduce any blue, ashy or dark tones under the eyes. Depending on the depth of your skin can determine which shade of colour corrector is best for you.

Light Boost

Is a soft yellow shade that can be used to brighten under the eye area for dark skin tones. I use this shade after I have applied concealer under my eyes and when I want my under eye area to look lighter and brighter. Light Boost is also great to reduce redness on fair to medium skin tones.

Bright Forecast

A mid tone peachy coral shade that works so well on a fair to medium skin tones to reduce dark under eye circles. On medium-tanned skin tones Bright Forecast shade works well used on its own. On a fairer skin tone I love to mix Bright Forecast with Radiant Rose to remove dark circles and brighten the eye area. On a dark skin tone, Bright Forecast can be used to brighten.

Radiant Rose

Is a light shell pink shade is my favourite colour corrector to cover dark circles for fair skin with a a rosy undertone. I like to apply Radiant Rose first to remove dark circles then apply a concealer over top for extra coverage.

Peach Lustre

Is my desert island product that I cant do my makeup without! It is a beautiful burnt orange shade that immediately removes my dark under eyes! The orange takes away the dark blue/brown tones under the eyes (often common with dark skin tones) and for extra coverage I use concealer over the top. This corrector shade stops concealer from looking grey and ashy under the eyes and when I am doing makeup on darker skin tones I will always reach this product.

In conclusion,

The best way to remove dark circles is to apply a colour corrector to suit your skin tone, followed by a concealer. M.A.C Prep + Prime Highlighters will keep makeup looking natural because of the lightweight, radiant formula.

If you have fair skin, go for a corrector in a soft pink or peach shade.

For medium-tan skin tones go for soft peaches and a dark or deep dark skin tone burnt orange tones are the best for concealing under the eye.
